The Breast Event Ever
The Breast Event Ever was a fashion show and charity auction to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Two ladies who worked together, last January, decided to commit to the 3-day, 60-mile walk in memory of one’s mother, raising money in the process. This event was definitely the product of thinking big. It was hosted at the Park Tavern in Atlanta. Everything was pink, balloons, tablecloths, ribbons – it looked good. As you entered the party you past a table with several autographed guitars. Another table had memorabilia from at least a dozen pro and college sports teams. Esperazana was selling their “Save Boobs” t-shirts at a very reduced price, Doc Green kept replenishing a buffet of many delicious foods, the band played and the bar was open.
Over the summer, I had to host a table at transfer orientation, and next to a guy who was very friendly. During our down time, we sort of chit chatted and he mentioned that his wife worked at a hair salon in Dunwoody and that for every referral he sends to her, he gets one free night away from cleaning the kitchen. Laughingly, I took her card. Further in conversation, he mentioned that her salon was asked to style hair for a charity fashion show. My ears perked up. I inquired more about this fashion show and later that day he sent me the link to The Breast Event Ever. Just for fun, I went on and emailed one of the coordinators of the event and said, “hey, if you need another model, let me know.” She wrote back and said that she had enough at the time. A few weeks after that she emailed me and said, “We have a spot and you’re top on the list.” SCORE!
It’s the day of the event and I’m completely stoked and nervous. Having not been in a fashion show I really didn’t know what to expect. Earlier this week, my aunt and I did a mad dash to buy jeans and black heels. Finally, finding a pair of extra long (woo hoo), on clearance at Gap! We found the heels at Target and were all set, pedicure included! We were told we’d be wearing Esperazana shirts but to bring fun accessories.
I left work early to head over to get my hair and makeup done and let me tell you, it was a blast. Anyone who wants to do my hair and make up is a blessing! The owner of the salon wanted to do something different and funky. The theme of the night was “urban”. I ended up with a mohawk of big ringlets.

As I was waiting for my clothes, I saw the owner of the boutique hold up a pair of gold, that’s right gold spandex pants. I looked over to her and chuckled. She replied, “I’m not going to make you wear those.” I said, “Those are cool, would love too!” She with a smile said, “here try them on.” The outfit had an Esperazana brown shirt that went with it, slits cut in to the front and back. Unfortunately, I was a little too tall for the outfit and the shirt didn’t fit quite long enough, but luckily she had a similar outfit with black spandex pants! Figuring I wouldn’t know anyone at the event I’d be bold and wearing something untraditional

From the time we were outfitted, hair styled and makeup applied, several ladies were practicing their runway strut! Putting my modeling classes to SOME use I gave a few of the ladies some runway tips; most were quite nervous because they’d invited a lot of friends, boyfriend and family. The ladies were natural, and looked HOT! We lined up to hit the runway and the audience was on fire! The energy in the room was intoxicating and really helped to relax the nerves of some of the models! Within a blink of an eye we were on and off the runway!
The event was a great success and those two ladies who I only know by first name exceeded their fundraising with all the charitable donations made to The Breast Event Ever!
