Knees - Sweets x Training = Chicago
This equates what I'm hoping gets me across the finish line on the 22nd in Chicago. This is the first race that I've (half) trained for but actually to be honest I feel worried that I may NOT finish. Okay, I mean I know I will but at what cost.
My last long run a few weeks ago my legs were absolutely dead, D-E-A-D. My knees were sore that entire week afterwards. Trust me I KNOW this sport doesn't come without the natural aches and pain but this was extreme. I took some time off from running, and really just rested, the week after I started back on the eliptical and added some weights and just this past week I jumped on the tredmill and swam in the pool for a bit. My knees are feeling much better and I hope to get a short/long run in this Saturday and then rest up, detox and calm myself before the 22nd. Even when training for the half ironman this past May I felt more ready for the race then I do now. I can do it, but it's going to be more mental, then physical. Isn't that how it always is though? What do I have to lose, it'll be a fun weekend, celebrating a good friend's birthday in a city that I've only heard is amazing. So to my TRI/Marathon friends wish me LUCK, cause I'm going to need it! Also, best wishes to everyone doing races coming up (Marine Corps, New York, and Columbus)!

You don't need luck! Will be praying for you. :)
Have a great race.
...rest those knees up.
I have problems with knees too. Any chance that u might need new shoes?
I don't want u to freak out about changing anything prior to the race.
Have confidence in your training and your body. If u have done a HIM, u r ready for a marathon.
Like Kewl, will pray for u.
I will also being praying for you sis! I know you can do it!
You have the right attitude. Have fun celebrating with good friends. The race is not to the swift but to those who endure to the finish. Go for it!
Thanks for all the support.
Yes, Cliff I DO need new shoes, but I really didn't have enough time to break them in when I realized and it wasn't in the budget either. I think that I'll be "okay" with this pair but will definitely need to think about getting something new for the next event!
I WILL finish!
You have the right mental outlook and you are right about it being more mental than physical most of the time. I'll ditto what Kewl said.
And about teaching to 200 students, you need some serious confidence to get through that. I'll focus on elementary students right now and maybe way in the future will look to teaching at the university level.
Thanks Rob! The group isn't as intimidating as you might think, just eager to learn! The University level is a whole different bread - in some ways I've heard easier then what you do! Take care.
